For many young people, going to a summer festival is the highlight of the season. It’s a great opportunity to get together with friends, drink a little too much and enjoy the live music of some of your favourite bands and artists. However, if you don’t dress in a practical manner, you could end up having problems for the entire weekend. On the other hand, dressing stylish is a huge part of festival fun for girls, so it’s important to get a good balance.
1. Wear layers
Even if you don’t wear all the layers, you should at least pack some. You will definitely need a thin rain coat in case the heavens open during the weekend, and you should pack something warm even though it’s summer time. If you’re camping for the weekend, you should pack extra warm clothes since the temperature will drop significantly at night, especially when you’re outdoors. You can wear souvenir jackets or fleeces if you want a thicker layer, or take multiple shirts than you can take off or put on as you choose.
2. Prepare for rain!
You’ll be amazed at the amount of people you see walking around wearing either plastic bags or cheap thin ponchos that they’ve had to purchase at extortionate prices from the vendors. Buy a thin rain coat that you can fold up and stuff into the bottom of your bag, and if the rain does come, you definitely won’t regret it. You’ll save yourself money, effort and you’ll be more dry and comfortable than most people there.
3. Wear good footwear
Thankfully, it’s very fashionable to wear rain boots and other thick and sturdy boots while at a festival, so you don’t have to worry about looking out of place. Wear a pair of cool denim shorts and your favourite pair of rain boots and you’ll keep your feet out of the mud while looking bang on trend. Even though the sun might be shining, festivals are definitely no place to wear your flip flop or favourite summer sandals. And definitely no heels!
4. Don’t wear anything expensive
While you might want to wear your favourite Pandora jewellery and take your most expensive Gucci bag, expensive items are likely to get ruined at a festival, no to mention the risk of getting your things stolen. If you’re camping, remember that you will be asleep at some points during the weekend, and thieves might be lurking around looking for something valuable to take. While some things, such as your phone, aren’t easy to leave at home, you can certainly do without any expensive jewellery, fashion accessories and handbags. If you’re drinking at the festival too, you run the risk of losing or dropping your things yourself.
5. Don’t bother packing your entire makeup bag
Lots of girls want to apply makeup every morning and look great for the duration of the festival, but you don’t have to go all out every day. Take some light foundation, a small travel powder and your favourite mascara. There are many artists hanging around who will apply festival makeup, or you could buy a cheap colourful palette and some glitter stickers and put them on yourself.
